A basic OBD2 scanner reads codes from your engine computer, which is enough to find out why your check engine light is on. Your Toyota has dozens of other modules, though, including ABS, airbags, tire pressure monitoring, the hybrid system, and driver assists like adaptive cruise and lane-keeping. Those use Toyota's own protocols, and a generic scanner can't see them. Until now that meant a trip to the dealer or a pro-grade tool.
Carista talks to your Toyota the way dealer tools do. On a 5th-gen RAV4, for example, Carista can scan more than 30 systems, from ABS and the hybrid battery to blind spot monitoring and the pre-collision system. It explains each fault in plain English, so you know what's wrong before you talk to a mechanic.
Carista can read and clear fault codes in the ABS module on almost all supported Toyotas, and in the airbag module on many of them. Check your model on our supported vehicles page. No tool can clear a code permanently, though. If the problem behind it is still there, the car will detect it again and the light will come back. This is especially likely with airbag faults, which usually need a repair before the light stays off. Use Carista to find out what's wrong, fix the cause, then clear the code.
For maintenance reminder lights: on most Toyotas you reset these yourself from the dashboard or trip-meter button, with no tool needed. Carista's service indicator reset isn't available for most Toyota models.
Dealer diagnostic fees in the US usually run from about $100 to $200 or more. The price depends on the dealer, your location, and how many systems they check, and some dealers credit the fee toward the repair if you have it done there. Carista gives you the same fault codes from your driveway, with plain-English explanations, so you can walk in knowing what you're dealing with, or skip the visit if it's something simple.
Reading and clearing fault codes won't void your warranty. It's the same thing a technician does at the start of every service. In the US, the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act also stops a manufacturer from denying a warranty claim just because you used an aftermarket product. They'd have to show that product caused the problem. Customizations are different. If you change a setting and a related problem comes up, a dealer may ask about it. Carista backs up your original settings before any change, so you can restore factory settings before a dealer visit if you prefer.
Carista supports 40+ Toyota models, including RAV4, Camry, Corolla, Tacoma, Tundra, Highlander, 4Runner, Prius, Sienna, and Land Cruiser, most of them from around 2006 onward. It also supports Lexus and Scion models. Features vary by model and year, so check your exact car on our supported vehicles page to see which systems you can scan, customize, and service.
